Welcome to Ghost Toast..Kevin DeKimpe, better known as ‘Manwich’ from the LA Funk/ Soul band ‘Manwich and Potato Salad,’ started his career as a musician in the Detroit suburbs. He started performing in a Funk/ Motown cover band for weddings at the age of 15, and made enough pocket change to create a studio in High School. At one point he was writing/recording/performing with 5 local bands simultaneously. After high school he attended the University of Michigan to study Music and Audio Engineering, and also began a cartoon strip, Cosmic Dip, which was featured in the school’s newspaper. Converting his obsession with music to recording movie scores, he graduated in 2010 with his degree and a Sundance selection with the feature film ‘Bilal’s Stand.’ The film awarded him ‘Best Original Score – Feature’ in the 2011 Detroit Film Festival and the push to make it as a film composer. He moved to LA to continue his singer/songwriter passion and film-composing career. Returning to Michigan for a family reunion, he took a trip with his cousins to a discount shop where he found vintage onion stud earrings, which was the joke purchase of the trip, he thought it would be fun to make his own stud earrings inspired by food, cartoons, the 90’s, and pop art. His family and friends began requesting different pairs. More and more requests and designs led him to develop an earring business and brand, Ghost Toast.

Pretzel Photo of the Week
Here's our favorite pup Pretzel surveying his kingdom. Contrary to what Marci may say, Pretzel built this all from the ground up, including our front desk, recycled book nook...Take a look!

It's May in LA! So much is happening at Co-op 28. We have new products arriving daily and our vintage section is growing (stay tuned for vintage updates). Saturday, May 12 we'll feature Los Angeles artists CJ Mammarella & Richard Thornsberry in our gallery and, most importantly, Sunday, May 13 is MOTHER'S DAY!We can confidently say we're a one-stop-shop for everything you need for Mother's Day. Cards, jewelry, hats, scarves and candles, just to name a few, and all one of kind or independently produced items all available in our Los Feliz store.
Guys? Bring yourself on in and we'll find that perfect gift for the wife and/or mother in your life. For instance, we know shopping for jewelry can be overwhelming, but our friendly staff is here to help things go smoothly (and exchanges are cool!). Kids can find reasonably priced, fun items for mom too!
Mother's Day Spotlight: CHILANTHROPY candles
Chilanthropy (burn. relax. repeat.) candles are a popular item in the store. Why, you ask? Well, they're locally made, eco-friendly and they look and smell GREAT! They're made with exclusive Organic Denimwick™ and EcoSoya™ biodegradable soy wax - the purest
soy wax available on the market today and they look good. Did we say they look good? Perfect for moms and pretty much anyone else. What's even better about Chilanthropy is charities are linked to
each candle, so charities receive 5% of sales! How cool is that?
At Co-op 28 we want you to feel like you are family the second you walk in the door. Stop by and say hi and let us know if we can help make your shopping a little easier and much more fun. We're here for you. Call us at (323) 669-2828 or shoot an email with any questions at coop28handmade@aol.com

Unicorn Crafts at Co-op 28

"If you look at my work and don't get a cavity from how cute it is, I didn't do my job." - That's Faheema from Unicorn Crafts, a Southern California jewelry designer and resident smile maker at Co-op 28 Handmade and Indie Designs.
If her jewelery gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling it's partly because she takes shrinky dinks, everyone's favorite kiddy pastime, and gives them a modern spin. Earrings, rings, necklaces, buttons and pins, all uniquely packaged and all with her signature illustrations that truly scream out, "I MADE THIS!"
But what we love is that these adorable treasures are for anyone. Unicorn Crafts at Co-op 28...Come celebrate the kid in you!
